Abe Oye!

Whats with the name?

‘Abe Oye’ is an Indian slang for ‘What the ….’.  Every time We try doing something adventurous someone or the other comes up with ‘abe oye! what is this that you are doing’.  And we get affected by it a lot.

When I was a self conscious teenager… ‘abe oye, what are you doing’

When I dared to share my dreams… ‘abe oye,  only you can think of such impractical stuff. Well I will wait and watch’

When I recently quit my job to follow my passions… ‘abe oye, what have you done my friend?’

This ‘Abe Oye’, syndrome is a silent killer. It keeps the best in us from coming forth. We fear ridicule just as much as we fear failure. Its in this consistent spree of ‘looking good and avoiding looking bad’ that we loose the little of our individuality that is left. Given that most of us allow what people say to affect our lives a lot… (If you started smoking or boozing out of peer pressure or to look cool, you fall in this category) … we start living our life in a way in which people want us to live it. We become acknowledgement seekers. We start saying ‘yes’ when we want to say ‘no’. This is where ‘pretense’ enters our lives :P .

I am taking on ‘living a life of no pretense’. Been practicing it for a month now and I must confess, its very confronting. But I would also like to share that the sheer authenticity in your expression gives you a kick like nothing else. You feel really free.

This blog, is the documentation of my journey into the world of authenticity. I am taking on being the best I can be. I find my own gaps and I fill them. I am not dependent on anyone and yet I stand for all.

I take on, not getting affected by ‘Abe Oye’!

:)
